Goldendoodle Puppies - Bringing Love & Joy to Your Home

Have you been thinking about getting a new furry member of the family? Goldendoodles can be a perfect fit for many homes. This designer breed has become renowned for its perfect combination of the gentleness found in golden retrieves along with the athletic intelligence inherit in poodles. Combine these traits in the curly, allergy-friendly package of a little goldendoodle pup, and you have the perfect package!

Goldendoodles: A History

Goldendoodles got their start with a rather famous name: Dickens! While poodles have been cross-bred as far back as the late 1800s, it was Monica Dickens, great-granddaughter of the renowned author Charles Dickens, who crossed poodles with golden retrievers in an effort to create seeing-eye dogs for blind people who were allergic to most other dogs. In the decades since, goldendoodles have become one of the most popular designer breeds for their friendly, energetic qualities, and of course, their allergy-friendly traits as well.

Goldendoodle Appearance

Goldendoodles come in many different sizes, and these are often broken out into three categories: mini, medium, and standard. Generally speaking, mini gloldendoodles are 0-30 pounds. Medium goldendoodles are 30-50 pounds. And standard goldendoodles land between 50-70 pounds. Technically, standards can be as large as 90 pounds, but DoodleBrood standard goldendoodles tend to top out around 70 pounds.

Goldendoodles tend to get their body shape from the slender silhouette of the poodle, with some of the golden retriever face shape showing up. Their fur can be wavy or curlier depending on how much poodle is in the mix. F1 puppies (50% golden retriever and 50% poodle) tend to be wavier with less overt curl in the fur. F1B puppies (25% golden retriever and 75% poodle) tend to have a tighter curl in their fur. These F1B puppies are generally the “teddy bears” that have become so popular.

Goldendoodles: Caring for your puppy

Golden retreivers don’t generally require grooming, but poodles do. Therefore, goldendoodles will need regular groomings to keep their coats well-tended. In the case of F1B goldendoodles especially, this offers the opportunity for stylized groomings.

In between groomings, it can help to regular brush out your pup’s coat, and we can recommend some tools we use for the task.

Beyond grooming, remember that goldendoodles are an active breed, and they will benefit from regular exercise. A daily walk is a must.

Choosing the Right Goldendoodle Puppy

One of the most important factors when choosing the right goldendoodle puppy is choosing the right goldendoodle breeder. Read our information here on choosing a quality goldendoodle breeder.

Once you’ve found a good breeder, make sure you’ve considered whether you have the time and financial resources necessary to provide for a goldendoodle puppy. There will be expenses beyond food and toys, and grooming visits and trips to the vet do come with a cost.

Once you’re sure you can provide and you’ve found the right breeder, the best breeders will help you in the selection of your puppy through personality matching. If your breeder doesn’t know how to do this, you might want to keep searching until you can find a breeder with more experience. Getting a puppy whose personality is matched to yours can make an enormous difference for both pup and person!
