Training Started for Potty-Trained Puppies Tennessee
For people looking for a new pet, often the greatest concern is how they will potty train their new friend. Besides being completely precious, DoodleBrood Goldendoodle puppies have had their potty training started from a young age. By the time they go to their forever homes they have already had weeks of initial potty training, and that makes introducing them to proper toilet behavior in your home SO MUCH EASIER!
To find out more about our available Goldendoodle puppies and the benefits to you of them already having started to learn to go potty outside, read on!
How We Start Our Potty Trained Puppies Tennessee
Even before we start training, puppies already want to go to the bathroom away from where they sleep. You can see that behavior from when they first start toddling about their space around 2 weeks old. We prepare our puppies for what they’ll encounter when they get older by giving them “potty space” in there puppy area that is set aside from where they sleep. It’s a small section of artificial turf placed over puppy pads.
This is first evident from the time they are first able to stagger around on their little legs at about 2 weeks of age. We set up our puppies for success with potty training from this early age by providing them with a potty area distinct from their bedding in the small whelping box they were born in. We use a patch of artificial turf overlaying puppy pads. As the puppies mature and progress to solid food between 4-6 weeks, we make sure they have more space, continuing to provide the artificial turf set aside from their sleeping space. At this time we begin to introduce them to using the bathroom outdoors, experiencing real grass. By the time they reach 8 weeks old and are ready to go home, DoodleBrood puppies have a strong, reliable association with using the bathroom on grass.
The Strong Difference in Puppies Who Have Already Started Potty Training
When breeders don’t condition their puppies to know where it is appropriate to use the potty, new owners are confronted with a confused little puppy who will just do their business anywhere! But it’s not the puppy’s fault. The poor thing doesn’t know any better. Commonly, breeders will make this problem worse by using newspapers or puppy pads all throughout the early puppy spaces. This encourages the puppies to go the bathroom right next to their sleeping, eating, and watering places.
As you can probably already tell, this is a recipe for disaster.
At DoodleBrood, we reinforce the puppy’s natural inclination to pee away from their sleeping area, and this makes your job when your new puppy comes home much simpler and much less stressful.
As with socialization, puppies that aren’t trained to use the bathroom properly from the beginning can struggle throughout their lives, and it’s hard their owners too. By getting a puppy that has been properly trained from the beginning, both the puppy and the owners are set up for success.
Are DoodleBrood Goldendoodle Puppies Fully Potty Trained?
We get this question all the time. While we do our best to give our puppies the best start possible, you need to understand that no puppy can be fully potty trained by 8 weeks old. Our puppies are conditioned to want to use the bathroom outside, but at such a young age, you need to remember a few key factors.
First, they have really small bladders, and they will need to use the bathroom at regular intervals. Second, they won’t be familiar with your home right away, and they’ll need to get familiar with your expectations in their new environments.
We’ll walk you through our recommendations for successfully completing your pup’s toilet training at home. We just want to make sure you understand, some work will be needed in this department. We’ve given your pup a great start, and if you follow the tips we provide, you and your pup should have much easier time of it!
Enjoying the Benefits of a Potty-Trained Puppy
So this might seem a bit “like, duh.” The biggest benefit of a goldendoodle puppy whose potty-training is already underway is that it’s easier for you! Your pup will have fewer accidents, and you’ll have less to clean up as they finish their potty training in your home. It mean you face less frustration, and both you and the puppy will be happier as a result.
